John Augustus Moore papers, 1840-1910.

This small collection consists of papers of John Augustus Moore from 1840-1910. The papers include correspondence, clippings, financial papers, certificates, military records, and a diary (December 1861-January 1862). The correspondence includes one letter from Moore to Secretary of State William Seward regarding Moore's oath of allegiance to the Union and a letter from Moore's brother George, concerning the Civil War's effects. The military records include a military pass and Moore's oath of allegiance.

John Augustus Moore, Gillisonville, South Carolina postmaster, was born on May 16, 1831 and died on December 31, 1920.
